Bio: Personal Insight

You might ask,
“Who in the hell is Ricky Diaz?”

Hell— I’m still trying to find out who he is. (Just kidding!) All jokes aside... honestly, everyday I learn something new about me. So I guess for now, Ricky Diaz is a singer/ songwriter born and raised in the Los Angeles area. You know, as a kid my dream was always to be involved in music in one way or another. I learned as a young boy that I had this gift of music, and that I had to put it to use.

 I have been singing for as long as I can remember (I know, sounds like everyone else’s story - haha). No but really, I have. In elementary school I discovered this passion for writing and that later led into songwriting. I remember listening to Michael Jackson's “Thriller” album, which was the first cassette I ever owned; I remember my grandmother bought that for me.  While growing up, I was influenced by many styles of music... My father would listen to Oldies; my mother played Latin music while my brother introduced me to Hip-Hop and Rap. I also discovered the sound of R&B and pop music through mainstream radio.

I remember listening to artists like Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey and Babyface, who taught me that as an artist you could also be a songwriter. So I definitely looked up and continue to look up to them. But definitely there are many artists today that I am truly inspired by and am a fan of. 

I hope you will enjoy [or have enjoyed] my music, since it comes from my heart, my experiences and what I have seen and have yet to see. Recently I signed a publishing deal as a writer with BMG Music Publishing and that is one dream of many that I've been able to accomplish; and still, there so many more that I have yet to quest and conquer... My dreams don’t stop here. They have just started. So, last and final words: don’t be afraid of dreaming, because dreams can come true.
